Intimacy Bonus Tracks

Sorry but this is going to have to be a swift one because I’m not actually at home! The music in this post is great though so get downloading!
Can I just take a second to re-cap… I said that I hoped the art-work above wasn’t the actual cover art for Bloc Party’s new (unnoticed) album, but what it has been replaced with is even worse; two unidentified people tongueing each other. As in kissing… Now I’m not some old man but it’s just un-needed and crass. Absolutely, there is something intimate about kissing, but how many better examples are there to get their point across?
Anyhow, it doesn’t really matter, I suppose, because it’s not like anybody apart from myself, Bloc Party, and Kele’s pet dog called Walter have any idea that this album has come out. Whoever has done such shit PR for one of the most important albums of the year deserves to have his balls chewed on by Walter.

The album was physically released today, and for the two month wait you get two bonus tracks. Personally, I think it’s taking the piss a bit to just tag them on at the end, at arms length like some sort of leper. If they’re on the album then fine, put them on the album. None of this half arsed-ness! (is that a word?)

Luckily for Bloc party, their poor PR and strange decisions (mercury was a single??!!) is always made up for by their songs. And the two new songs, “Letter to My Son” and “Your Visits Are Getting Shorter” are absolutely worth the wait. Especially “LTMS” which rumbles along with a Smiths-ian guitar line. “YVAGS” starts really strongly, sounding like the electro song that they tried to make with “Mercury”, before a mid-song recession threatens to make that two months completely worthless. Thankfully, the song is saved by the re-introduction of the hook from the start.

Also tagged on at the end of the post is the latest “Blag Party” project, an acoustic rendition of “Flux” by Of Yesteryears, reminiscent of Jose Gonzalez’ cover of the Knife’s “Heartbeats”. Plus, the Pin Me Down’s (Russell Bloc Party’s side project with Milena Mepris) remix of “Ares”.
