Not Many Experts Mix II: Mixing Competition



This mix has turned out great! (Don’t worry, I’m not writing this on Christmas Day, I uploaded this all earlier) When I started to put it together, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to live up to NME Mix I, but as time passed, the collection grew into a more mature and self assured set of songs. Please keep in mind that although the likes of Crookers and Danger feature, this set is designed to get my friends (who aren’t really into this sort of thing) dancing. Simply put, it’s fantastic electro for people who aren’t really into it. Oh… Just one thing. I’m not really a DJ, and although I find it easy to mix stuff on Virtual DJ, that’s not really good enough, is it? I thought that instead of embarrassing myself, I’d just upload the tracks and let you, my readers, mix it together. I’m sure you’re much better than I am. I will listen to all the mixes that you send me (if you are having trouble uploading it, contact me at notmanyexpertsphil@googlemail.com and I will sort it for you) and then rank them.

I think that the mix reflects what a great year it has been for hip hop, with a lot of artists like Q-tip, Wale, Lil Wayne, Lupe and Kanye West finally coming good with the critics. I should stress that this isn’t a 2008 mix – just what has reached my ears in the past few months and things I left off the last mix that maybe I should have included. There are a few tips below that you may or may not want to think about when you are making your mix.

I promised you this would be with you on Christmas Day, and decided to release it today because hopefully the music terrorists who take down my posts actually have a life and won’t be doing their job on Christmas or Boxing Day, giving you a lot of time to download the tracks. Here it is;

Just a few thoughts:

  • I put both “Kids” remixes on intending for one to be mixed into the other
  • I find that it works best to mix in to the 50 Cent track at around 2:30, it’s when the song really gets going
