Not Many Experts

Why has the picture gone absolutely tits up? It wasn’t fantastic to start with, but the colours have inverted, presumably just to annoy me. Anyway, this is just going to be a short one, because I’ve spent the whole evening writing an 1,000 fucking word French essay!

The long and the short of it is this; Handsome Furs is the husband-wife duo of Wolf Parade’s frontman, and they have just released their sophomore album, “Face Control”, on Sub Pop. I’ve had the pleasure of being able to listen to it for a few weeks now, thanks to We All Want Somebody To Shout For, and it really is an extremely impressive album.

“Face Control” is delightfully stripped down, with guitars and drums laid bare at times, and beautifully obscured with layers of synths at others. “Radio Kaliningrad” is one of my album highlights (along with “I’m Confused” and “All We Want, Baby, Is Everything”). Lyrically, Dan Boeckner is strangely reminiscent of Arcade Fire, in fact, the whole album sounds like Win Butler doing synth-rock, which has to be a good thing.
