Beaten To Two Door Cinema Club By NME!

I really should apologise for the chronic lateness of this post, because I uploaded the new single by Two Door Cinema Club, “Something Good Can Work”, 10 days ago, but have just not got round to posting it yet. What’s galvanised me into action is that fact that NME printed about it in this weeks magazine which, as I like to think I’m a step or two ahead of them, really irked me! Anyway… As I mention fairly often, I hate being pigeon holed as an “indie kid”, an allegation which is completely untrue if you skim through a few posts, but I can’t really deny that Northern Irish lads Two Door Cinema Club, who have been hotly tipped for 2009, are completely “indie” by every comprehension of the word.
However, they replace the usual cringingly poor lyrics purulent of bands like the Wombats with the sort of heart-strings-tearing indie pop that was the cause of the resurgence of the genre around 2005. I know that mentioning the Wombats in the same post as recommending music may seem hypocritical, but Two Door Cinema Club’s take on guitar driven pop music with a touch of the National esq lyrical gravitas coupled with the sort of guitar twiddlery that’s going to take over festivals everywhere this Summer. You heard it here first (almost).
For fans of: Bloc Party, Mystery Jets, Maximo Park
Most likely to: “do a Wombats” – expect the 7″ released on Monday to be largely ignored until they are marketed properly and then re-released to great chart success, proving that the music buying public are sheep. Even if they are sheep that will get it right in the end.

As usual, thanks to Derek at Neon Gold Records for the tip off.
