The Return of The Maccabees
Emotional heart ticklers the Maccabees return in April with their sophomore album, “Wall Of Arms”. Except… judging by “No Kind Words”, the first song from the album to be released to the public, the credit crunch has hit South London’s finest pretty hard. It would seem, if all speculation is true, that the band have cut up their skinny jeans and turned the bass levels on their amps up, ending up with a more White Lies-esq sound. Taking into account the fact that lead singer Orlando’s voice is still as fantastically unique as ever, this can only be a welcome change. Of course, the rest of the album could be completely different to “No Kind Words”, but that remains to be seen. Very excited for the album? Absolutely, “No Kind Words” is dark, brooding, explosive and properly establishes the band not just as some kids who were in the right place at the right time, but genuinely talented musicians who have seemingly successfully reinvented themselves without discarding their unique personality and charm.
You can download the song direct from here, or if you have more of a conscience than most of us, you can give The Maccabees your e-mail address and do it all legit and that.
