Kuduro!! Kuduro??? Do you like Kuduro? Hang on…. does anyone even know what Kuduro is?? Michalis Migos investigates in his first ever feature for Not Many Experts….

Buraka entra!

Take one large part African Calypso and Soca rhythms, one part Brazilian baile funk, one part original hiphop, some crazy Portuguese rappers and mix with a veritable mishmash of different electronic dance styles including techno, breaks, house, drum and bass, electro and more recently a lot of dubstep, and out comes Kuduro.
Buraka Som Sistema are good at Kuduro.

Very good. It’s rare that any band gets me actually physically shaking my ass, but these guys have managed it (and that is a sight you never, ever want to see!) The heady mix of genres is both infectious and irresistible.
It’s not often that you get to hear truly global music. Any music that originates outside the Western sphere of influence is usually stuck under that boring moniker “World Music” and no one bothers to listen to it. Kuduro is different, and while not exactly global it is certainly multinational and, to me at least, this gives it extra appeal. Even if you don’t understand what the Portuguese guy is saying, the way they spit out the words is much more appealing than the vacant complacency or inane drawl with which certain US rappers deliver their lyrics.

Seeing as I’m late to the party the singles “Sound Of Kuduro” and “Kalembe (Wegue Wegue)” have been blogged to death (you should still search hypem for them though…) I’m just gonna post two of my favourite tracks plus a newer remix of Dre Skull + Sizzla’s “Gone Too Far” that add’s a ragga flavour to Buraka’s already bountiful genre collection.

And yes, I’m not gonna lie to you, I first heard these guys on Skins… Shoot me.
