Forget Florence…

ellie-goulding

… if you’re looking for the next woman who is going to trouble the charts and is actually worth listening to, then taking into consideration the fact that La Roux and Little Boots have both pretty much made it, Ellie Goulding (above) and Marina & The Diamonds (who I have posted about in the past) fit the mould pretty well. I don’t pretend to know the future, but I would be quite happy to put one of those cute little parmesan graters to my left cheek if they both aren’t hitting the charts sometime next year. Let it be said, but let it not be remembered. Unless I am right (which I of course will be), in which case I will most vainly remind you of the cheek grating bet.

Ellie Goulding is definitely playing a clever game – if she hadn’t collaborated with Frankmusik and covered Bon Iver, I would never have bothered checking her out; she clearly knows the audience she’s targeting. Personally, I wasn’t too fussed about her until I heard her absolutely gorgeous cover of Bon Iver’s “Wolves”, but her blatantly sensational voice & clever marketing are sure to start earning her more and more attention.

I have already posted Marina’s “Obsessions”, but it has slowly matured into one of my favourite songs of the year, and with the release date of her second EP drawing nearer, I thought I had better take the time to remind you to head over to Neon Gold and invest some money in our next great popstar. She’s sort of like Adele, but with more balls, more soul and an incredible knack for penning unforgettable lyrics. The EP is out June 1st, and you should buy it here.
