Jack Penate Is Finally Actually Genuinely Really Good?!

It all started with “Tonight’s Today”… a nagging suspicion that Jack Penate had somehow turned into a credible and downright exciting artist (as well as the sort of ruggedly handsome man it’s possible to develop a man crush on) crept into my consciousness… Well, the new album “Everything Is New” has leaked, and whilst the jury is still out on whether this is a good album or a great album, I can certify that the album title is not completely accurate; although Jack has undeniably flourished under his new producer’s guidance and crafted an album that is sure to eclipse his half hearted first effort, his songs are still pervaded by his yelping, frenetic energy and surf guitars.

Pick of the bunch, without a doubt, is album opener “Pull My Heart Away”. Delightfully echoing guitars + heart wrenching chorus = Penate’s best yet. Just thank god that producer of the minute Paul Epworth (aka remixer extraordinaire Phones) has taken to the decks for Penate’s latest, bringing reems of credibility with him; otherwise I don’t think I’d be able to bring myself into admitting that I love him.
