New Skream Remixes

With the almost unbelievable amount of attention that dubstep is receiving at the moment, it would be wrong to ignore someone who not only was one of the fathers of the genre, but also dragged the genre out from the murky corners of Camden, and directly into the public’s consciousness. In other words, it would be wrong to ignore Skream.

I think that one of the un-noticed consequences of music blogs is that we now consume so much music that bands and DJs become faceless monikers, and because of this it is all to easy to forget that Skream is only 21, and yet it was him, along with Hatcha and Benga, who started branching out into the deep, sub bass sounds that eventually became dubstep. How many 21 year olds do you know who have pioneered their own genre?

Although the rate that Skream works at is nothing short of prolific; he claims to have 8,000 songs in different stages of development, new Skream remixes always demand to be listened to. And after a relatively long period of silence, two new remixes of Chromeo and Bat for Lashes have surfaced. Are they brilliant? Well, of course they are. This is Skream; and although that in itself isn’t enough to guarantee the quality of the music, it’s a pretty damn good indicator. Personally, I can’t see either remix getting to the viral levels of popularity as his Gold certified La Roux remix, but this is more down to the low profile of the songs that he has remixed, not the quality of his work. As if that actually matters though; Skream, at the age of 21, has fathered a genre and made a success of it. What’s a Gold disc to him?
