[Stream] Kele // Tenderoni
Kele’s new single “Tenderoni” was debuted, as ever, by Zane Lowe this evening. Many listens later, I’ve been through many stages of initial optimisim, disgust with try-hard dance music, apathy and confusion. At the moment, I’m stuck at the “love-it-but-know-it’s-awful” stage, and am quite happy to remain there. Tapping into the hard wash of synths that acts like MSTRKRFT perfected “back in the day”, there’s no questioning that Kele knows what he’s doing, but is he just four years too late? Either way, to quote Kele himself, “Well, I certainly like it”.
14th June will see the release of “Tenderoni”, and it seems certain that the droves of Radio 1 listeners will be trooping to their virtual record stores to part with small amounts of money, and with regards to this commercial success, we can only be glad that the public are being spoken to by someone as intelligent and articulate as Kele.
The following week debut album “The Boxer” will appear. If you’re in the UK, good idea to pre-order the album here; if you’re quick you’ll get Kele’s signature as well as what is looking likely to be a very good album (if you believe The Fly or The NME). A glance at Bloc Party’s back catalogue would seem to bode very well, anyway.
