New Noise: The Delta Mirror
The Delta Mirror are currently staking out a future as one of the year’s most important bands, with their music being described by the hugely influential Pitchfork & Stereogum as somewhere between The Antlers and The Big Pink. As if that isn’t enough description to warrant interest, an emotionally unstable George Mills stuck his ears in:
Words: George Mills.
Maybe I wouldn’t have been listening as much to The Delta Mirror’s "A Song About The End" had events in the last couple of weeks played out differently, but alas, David Cameron is now Prime Minister of Great Britain and I find it necessary to seek auditory solitude, like some kind of political emo. In a way I’m grateful however, as without the election of Mr. Cameron, I may not have given the LA trio the listening time that they so deserve.
With subtle influences from folk, hip-hop and electronica, The Delta Mirror hang precariously somewhere between the shoegaze/ambient divide, for all you fans of defining bands in terms of genre. For everybody else, the underlying message of this review is simple: this band are doing things to make sounds I think you might quite like. Such is the complexity and depth of their music, I have genuinely been attempting to find words to describe The Delta Mirror for over an hour and a half. I need a lie down.

The Delta Mirror’s debut LP is out on 25th May on Lefse Records (the same label that brought us Neon Indian’s LP), feel free to invest some currency here.
