[New] Fenech-Soler // Lies

Since we first wrote about Fenech-Soler here, predicting what we thought would be a much deserved rise to fame, they’ve half proved us right and half depressed us with the enormous pile of faux-sentimental excrement that “Stop & Stare” was; essentially 2010’s A&R-constructed synth version of a floppy Script ballad. So whilst right now it seems unlikely that Fenech-Soler are capable of mustering an album that will do anything more than excite hormonal young girls and sexually confused young boys, “Lies” remains an effortlessly brilliant pop song that could easily chuck them somewhere near those charts when released as a single this September.

The rest of their back catalogue residing on my laptop is suggesting that “Stop & Stare” was more of an anomaly than a sign of things to come. Unfortunately they are now signed to the same label as such fear/vomit inducing semi-comedic acts as The Twang, Kaiser Chiefs and The Automatic, but grab “The Lion And The Bird” below to restore some confidence. Not all hope’s lost. It’s just disappearing fast – yet if anyone on that label is going to release an album that’s worth listening to, the smart money would still be these boys.
