By The Sea // Dream Waters
‘Dream-pop’ is swiftly becoming a hastily-applied label to any slightly ethereal pop music in a desperate attempt to market it to the hipster head honchos of the music media. Yet it’s also true that there are still bands around crafting that delightfully disorientating smoke haze of a sound. By The Sea are a hugely exciting Merseyside based band who are more than successfully crafting that melancholic yet entirely satisfied sensation; the one that feels like you’re semi-drunk on England’s annual baking hot afternoon, even though it’s pissing down with the ferocity of Charlie Brooker outside. By the time the insistent drums of “Dream Waters” kick in you’ll be completely powerless; this will gently sweep your unsuspecting ears away before you even notice it.
If you’re feeling like you need more after that, you can download another track from the recently freely released (and brilliant, as always) EDiLS Recordings Compilation. There’s a couple of cheekily-priced (free) songs on their soundcloud, and if that is not enough sustenance, you can even find out their innermost thoughts on twitter.
